One "simple" question

Spring is slowly showing its presence, there is a flood of ideas and thoughts needing to come out of my head (no time to sit and write, though), and, out of nowhere, a question from JP this morning  while we were driving to school:

Are we passing through the world or is the world passing through us?

  1. Now there's a big question! What did you answer?

    1. Ah! Short version - I couldn't, so I didn't!

Long, highly practical version went like this:
His father answered, without hesitation, "we are the ones moving". JP promptly replied: "So you're saying the world is still?"
(father:) The world and therefore we in it, are never still, but this movement you feel right now is caused by us moving). (JP) "hmm...OK", said with a tone filled with scepticism that leaves us no doubt this subject will return, so I made a mental note to pick up children book on the subject next time I'm at the library.

He has been interested in the mechanics of the universe lately, and his question was all about that. But the way he articulated the question embodies so many things and the timing was so in tune with my mind's divagations lately that I didn't resist the urge to publish it. I don´t think I'll address this with him, at least not for now (truth to be told, I'm having difficulty explaining it as it is, for instance "what is there beyond the universe?" "the infinite" " what is there beyond the infinite?". It's quite challenging as it is!
